We specialize in fiber optic cabling system design and installation in greater Toronto area for both indoor and outdoor usage. We do installations in Toronto, Mississauga, Burlington, Milton, Hamilton ,Brampton, Vaughn, Kitchener, Cambridge etc. Correct type of fiber cable must be used depending on the application. Some of the important considerations for fiber cabling are the type of environment, data rate, cost and distance. Installing and termination of multi strand fiber optic cabling is a specialized job for experienced professionals.
For distances up to 1km multimode fiber is commonly used. Today there are two types of fiber cables are used commonly. They are called OM3 & OM4. Main criteria for selecting between OM3 and OM4 is the distance
Fiber Type
1Gbps
10Gbps
40/100 Gbps
OM3

300m
100m
OM4

OM3 Fiber
Fiber optic cabling is preferred over copper cabling due to a number of reasons. Depending on the application one needs to decide what type of fiber must be installed. For shorter distances generally Multi mode fiber is used. For longer distances single mode fiber is installed.
Signals carried by fiber optic cables are not affected by electromagnetic interference. Therefore fiber optic cables are desired in outdoors as well as in environments where there is significant electromagnetic interference such as manufacturing.
Over the years fiber optic cables have vastly improved while their costs also have come down significantly.
In most applications multi mode fiber can be used. Multi mode fiber is classified as OM1, OM2, OM3 or OM4. Orange colored OM1 & OM2 cables are used for data rates upto 1Gbps. Light blue colored OM3 & OM4 fiber optic cables are used for 10Gbps data speeds.
Single mode fiber can carry data over many kilometers at high speeds. Typically speeds over 10Gbps can be achieved using fiber optic cabling.
